WebDriver can also more accurately simulate user events or OS-level events. WebDriver differs from JavaScript unit tests because WebDriver has access to functionality and information that JavaScript running does not in the browser. WebDriver implements many of the high priority features from the W3C spec to let developers open a session, automate basic functionality against the pages, and then return the results of the tests. WebDriver can also manage testing across multiple windows, tabs, and webpages in a single session.

WebDriver enables developers to create automated tests that simulate users interacting with webpages and then report back results in Internet Explorer 11. For more information, see Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ.

Warning: The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application has been permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows 10.
